Janine Rea
I love to place paint onto the canvas and let my imagination take over! There is often no thought/preparation before I begin – my hands are lead as if by instinct. Most of the time, I have no preconceived idea of what I am about to produce. I just choose the colours and pastes that take my fancy on the day and throw them onto the canvas. I start with lines and patterns and let the journey begin. I play with the paint and love the random effect of splatters and drips. Incredible colours, textures and patterns emerge all on their own to create my abstract art. I frequently use bright, vibrant colours, and produce complex patterns or landscapes from another world. I attack my art work with the exact opposite mind frame/approach to my work as a geologist. My work as a computer geologist is very structured, exact and purposeful. This is in direct contrast to my art work which is quite random and free. My work is not inspired by anyone in particular. I attend the Freedom School of Art run by David Giles where we study many different abstract artists. I have been inspired by Jacky McFarlane who has introduced me to the 'Golden' range of vibrant coloured paint, and taught me how to use the many varieties of mediums and texture pastes. I've exhibited my work in a number of group/council exhibitions:
